ABOUT PAM DEINES
Pam Deines is an Early Childhood Reading Specialist, working with children from Pre-K through 2nd grade to prevent or overcome challenges in learning to read and spell. She has more than 15 years of experience and success tutoring beginning readers and young children with learning difficulties. Pam's patience and enthusiasm for helping children make the connection between letters and sounds for reading and spelling has helped numerous families experience the excitement that comes from watching their young child begin to read or begin to enjoy and succeed at reading.
Pam has completed several reading certification programs based on the Orton-Gillingham method. Dr. Samuel Orton introduced the idea of combining multisensory learning strategies with visual and auditory concepts in the 1920's. Anna Gillingham worked with Dr. Orton and introduced a systematic and orderly approach of introducing 70 phonograms - single letters and letter pairs - that represent the 44 individual sounds of the English language. Combining the multisensory techniques with the visual and auditory concepts became the basis for working with children with reading disabilities and dyslexia. It is a direct, explicit, systematic approach that builds a strong foundation for success in reading and spelling.
Pam has a B.A. degree in Early Childhood Education and has completed trainings and certification in the following Orton-Gillingham reading and spelling programs:
